My boyfriend went through the same thing. Your parents are just concerned, they come from a generation where eyeliner is ONLY for women. You should try to sit with them and explain why you wear eyeliner, maybe show them pictures of other emo boys who wear it. That way they can see that this isn't just some weird thing that their son is doing, it's pretty widely accepted. Good luck!

You're right. Your parents don't understand exactly why you want to wear eyeliner and in their mind, it's a girly thing. So maybe you need to talk to them some more about what you are into, what it means to be emo, etc. (Or introduce them to your girlfriend. That might help too.) Sometimes you have to communicate to bridge the gap between generations. Yes, your parents may find your choices perplexing, but ask them to remember some of the stuff they did when they were teenagers. Every generation finds new ways to shock and distress their parents. Mostly, they want to know that you are making healthy choices. They may not understand you, but they love you.

It's just the generation gap. When I was growing up, guys with two earrings were considered "gay", now it's common. You can try to explain it to them, but they still may never get it. Don't worry, parents not understanding is just a part of growing up. Personally, I think boys with eyeliner are hot!

I was watching the news a few months ago and a high school boy and his mother were on because the son was suspended from school for wearing eyeliner. The mother said she didn't think it was right, and she refused to even try to make him stop. This boy did it because he liked the look on the guy in "Green Day" if this is your case show them a picture. Fashion trends starts and it takes people time to adjust, years ago men who got their ear peirced were called gay also.

First of all most gay people that I know do not wear eyeliner except trans. I assumed your parents said that to you so that you stop wearing it not because they think you're gay but because they don't want their son looks like punk or gothic or something.

Just talk to them about it. I personally think it is sexy looking on guys, and I'm 50.
My son (he's 26) tried out all sorts of things like wearing a skirt, long hair, blue hair, super short hair, goth, and he is so not gay.
He got married last Halloween in a poets shirt, cape and midnight blue sash. He looked awesome.
Try to share your position with your folks - believe me they just want to know that you are okay, not suicidal and not taking drugs. LOL

It surprises me after all America has been thru, that there is still stereo typing going on. What the heck were the 60's for anyway. You go on expressing your artistic self. be yourself. Keep talking with your parents. I think they'll come around after awhile.

why? because both gays and emos wear eyeliner.
i say, just tell them your emo, and emo people where eyeliner. if they dont know what emo means, you can either tell them the truth, or make something up
