Whats a better starting motorcycle for a 6'3" 235 pound guy?

I just signed up for the motorcycle safety riding course, and as soon as im done with that ill be looking to get a bike. So far i've narrowed it down to 3 bikes. 1.Harley XL883 Sportster 2.Kawasaki Vulcan 500 3.Suzuki Boulevard S50 while i know its better to start out with less power as a beginner, im a big guy, so im worried that the japanese bikes wont be able to haul me (and maybe a passenger) around easily. Im a pretty strong guy, so bike weight isnt as big an issue as it may be for smaller riders, but id still like some thoughts on which to get. I've always wanted a harley since i was a kid, but if the other bikes would be able to perform, id like to know. thanks.

The Harley has less power but has fewer features than the Japanese built bikes. Any of those bikes would be good for someone your size. My husband is 6'3'', 170 and rides a little Honda Nighthawk but we're looking to buy a Suzuki. The Honda is really old and isn't very comfortable on long rides for a tall guy. We've looked at all of those bikes and the Kawasaki's and the Suzuki's seem to be the best value. You can buy a Japanese built cruiser for the same price as a low-end Harley. The quality is still the same. My husband's Honda was built in 86' has a ton of miles and is in great shape. It was a starter bike he bought for $700. Good luck! You'll really enjoy riding!

Dude listen very carefully. I just bought a new Harley last month. I got the 1200 Sportster Low and it's too small for me. I'm 5'10" 215lbs. I love the bike but I look like a Shaq riding a pony. I recommend a Dyna Wide Glide, Fatboy, or the Deuce. I just started riding myself and took the 3 day class. You'll pick up on it fast if you have any athletic ability at all. I'm already looking into trading in my Sportster and it only has 1200 miles. Forget about the Jap bikes. Get a Harley. I promise you won't be disappointed. Chics dig Harleys.

Forget the 883. Hardly enough juice for one, never mind two. I know. I had the XL1200C. I needed the C for the forward controls. I'm also 75" tall with a 36" inseam. It was still tight, and a real pain in heavy traffic. Plus she sounded like she was screaming her guts out at 70MPH on the highway. Can't tell you squat about the rice. Last rice I rode was in '86. It was a model they don't make anymore, so telling you about it would be a waste of time. But, I have heard good things about the Kaw's Vulcan models. If bike weight is no issue, and you have ridden a little bit before, try a '99 or later model FXDWG. They cost a bit more than rice, but mine has over 40,000 miles on it has given me zero trouble. The reason I say a '99 or later is they come with the TC-88. Nice motor. They also come with forward controls, it's easy to pop a windscreen on, they are not big in the HP department, but have lots of torque. And when you are ready to move out smartly, change the stock pipes to Screamin' Eagle II's, and the carb to an S & S Super. Cheap upgrade.

for your size...none of them. i have ridden an 883 and they are pretty anemic in stock form. the other 2 are also small bikes. for your size you should think about at least an 1100 cc or larger bike. especially if you ever intend to carry a passenger or anything else. of course i would say buy a harley, because i'm an old harley guy. but they all make pretty decent bikes now days. spend the extra bucks to get a big enough bike and you won't be looking for the right size bike in a year. right now is the time to buy, because everyone who wants to get rid of it doesn't want it sitting in the garage all winter long. good luck, and good riding.

A guy your size needs a big bike ,when you take the course its on really small bikes like the 250s so you will see how small they are and how your gonna need something in the 1100 are higher range , When ever I see big guys on small bikes I always think its there first bike are all they could afford , Believe me you will want to trade it in if its to small , I'm 5ft 7 and I handle big bikes very well as long as my feet touch the ground when stopped . Ride safe and always wave !

well if you are thinking of a HD 883, you might consider the 1200, it looks and weighs the same but has more power. I'm 6-1 , 220 and that's what I ride. You can find some sweet deals on these used with just a few miles on them , watch for 04 models as them have the smoother engine mounting :)

Get something used in the 1100cc range. Or a Sportster 1200. I'm suggesting the used one because as a new rider, you'll be sick when you get the first dings on a new bike. Maybe even look at a Triumph, too.

A man of your stature should really start with a 1200 Sportster a little more power but not as heavy as the other. My favortite is the Fat boys. Not only do they bad *** but look good too.
