Is there a way to retrieve data from a memory stick when the computer fails to recognize it?

Yes! First check the compatibility of the memory stick on your device not just by physical but also the capacity. But before you do that double check the card if its really not accessible by any computer, check if the card reader is compatible with your card's capacity.
