You don't have to be married to kiss. But I guess what he meant they could hug & then at the privacy of their home celebrate it whichever way they'd like to.I don't really mind, but I admit it was kinda weird, especiall the "wife" part. But you just dismiss it&go on! :)

In some states if heterosexual couples are together for a certain amount of time they call each other husband and wife, and not be legally married. As far as public affection goes I think a little peck on the cheek (or the lips) would be fine as long as they don't stand there and make out, heterosexual or not. When I meet my boyfriend out for lunch or dinner you better believe I'm going to greet him with a kiss, to hell what everyone around you is going to think. I just hope one day I can call him my husband whether they make it legal or not.

I don't know, was it necessary for the heterosexual winners to kiss their spouses. Why do you care what she calls the woman she is involved with, she isn't married to you? I do believe they had a commitment ceremony, so in their eyes they are married.

So then, one assumes you would be equally upset if a man kissed a woman who was not his wife when accepting an award.....right?

I think it was done more for making a statement. "Maybe someone at home is going, `Did she say wife?'" Etheridge said backstage. "I was kissing her because that's what you do, you kiss your loved one when you win an Oscar, that's what I grew up believing." I don't care if she wife, that's her own business.

If a heterosexual couple can kiss, then so can a gay couple. It really doesn't matter to me that she called the woman she loves her wife. If something like that bothers you, don't watch.

was this near the end or something....oh her songs are amazing! If a man had kissed his wife, you would not complain, Hopefully in a couple decades you wont complain about a woman kissing her woman.

I think that a public display of affection reguardless of sexual preference is in appropriate at times like that. You never know which age group is going to be watching and I think something like that should be off camera
