Um... I would say the Toyota Highlander Hyrid and the Lexus RX400h hybrid. They have more than 250 horspower/torque. That number is definitely good for towing a boat. but still gers over 25 MPG. i doubt any cars you mentioned above can beat that number.
If you dont really mind about their price.
Hybrid atually requires no more maintainence than a regular petrol vehicle, and some of them atually made it into the most reliable car in Consumerreport.org. And a Taxi driver was reported in Yahoo auto to got 200,000 miles in a prius and bettery still holds strong.

If I was looking for good fuel economy and lots of power I would personally look at a diesel SUV. The VW Toureg has a 10 cylinder diesel which gets pretty good fuel economy and awesome towing capacity (rated at 7500lbs if I remember correctly)
Another option would be looking at something like the Toyota Highlander hybrid. Good fuel economy while still using gasoline.
Unfortunately both of those vehicles will set you back huge $$$ (and either Mercedes or BMW have a diesel SUV with good towing capacity and fairly good fuel economy but even bigger $$$).
If your towing needs are under 3500lbs you might want to consider a minivan. Most minivan's have decent towing capacity and much better fuel economy than SUV's. Unfortunately there is just no way to look good in a minivan towing a sailboat.

lots of the above solutions get on the most excellent answer. maximum truly it truly is because the U.S. also represents a million/4th of the full international economic device, it truly is in straightforward words conceivable because we devour power commensurately. And both one in each of those data are authentic because the U.S. has via a techniques the most excellent inhabitants between *more suitable* countries. with the exception of China, the U.S. has from 2.5 to 10 circumstances extra inhabitants than any of the different precise-10 superior economies, so for sure we use extra oil. in straightforward words China and India have more beneficial populations than the U.S., and both are a techniques in the back of the U.S. in economic progression. even if it truly is extremely possibly that China's oil intake will surpass that of the U.S. in some unspecified time sooner or later in coming a lengthy time period. further, the U.S. makes use of extra oil on a in accordance to-capita foundation quite frequently as a condition of our large landmass and sparse inhabitants density. which potential human beings frequently stay a techniques far flung from the position they paintings and keep, and so do plenty extra driving than is the custom in maximum different international places. also with a extremely low inhabitants density, mass transit isn't very economically attainable in a large number of of the U.S., while it truly is instantly ahead in Europe, Japan, and chinese cities. (Even after yet another century of inhabitants boom, the U.S. inhabitants density in 2100 will be lower than Europe's is as we talk.) Darth hits another sturdy factors above.
