it sounds like it was over processed and broke off... your best bet is to grow it and continue cutting a small amount monthly... most people think that if they just leave it alone and grow it and not cut the damage and splits it will get better but the splits and weakness travel up the hair shaft breaking it further... you can use deep penetrating treatments but you should have a professional assess the type of damage that you have in order to recommend the right product... some hair needs moisture while others benefit from protein but using the wrong thing can cause the hair to break down further
