Don't know if the technology has changed, but when I was 14 & 15, I detassled. They had a special type of farm equipment drove down the rows with arms that extended out over the rows on both sides with a bucket that held two people. Two people/kids stood back-to-back in each "bucket" and pulled up on the tassles. HOWEVER, if you had rain recently and the fields were too wet for the farm machinery, then you had to walk the fields. Believe me...you want to pray that it does not rain.

I don't know a whole lot about this, cause I never did this job, but my husband did and what he told me was that he used to ride on the back of a truck and the truck went up and down the aisles of corn very slowly. He had to be to work around 5 a.m. and had to wear long sleeved shirts because I guess the leaves or something on the corn can actually cut you. I think he said they usually did not work more than 4-5 hours. I hope this helps you! Enjoy your position!
