There are 2 types of firewalls: 1.- Software: Usually in the Operative System (windows, linux, mac os, etcetera) or also in security packages (norton, mcafee, panda, trend antivirus, avg, etcetera) they can all be disactivated in the options menu sof the respective program, for Operative Systems you can disactivate them in control panels in the networking areas or firewall configurations(Graphic User Interface, GUI, that means the interactive onscreen pictures and mouse) or by command line (DOS like thing) 2.- Hardware: These firewalls are configured in either your internet modems, routers switches, etcetera. To find out what firewalls are active you need to access your internet device and reconfigure (done by IP addresses or special programs), your ISP (Internet Service Provider) can also restrict certain ports, this means that whoever provides you internet can have predetermined restrictions (firewalls)

If you have XP with SP2 you have a built in Firewall. Go to Start>Control Panel>Security Center>Windows Firewall. If you do not have SP2 installed, go to the Microsoft/Windows Update site and click on the link in the box on the right side of the screen.

Shields up https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 Click "proceed" and on following page click "all service ports" Microsoft OneCare Live, run “full service scan” Updates windows, virus and spyware scan, disk cleanup, disk fragmentation (if needed), backs up registry and then cleans registry, and checks for OPEN FIREWALL PORTS. http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
