Bad smell coming from honda odyessy... Low oil. Would it do damage to engine?

It did not overheat yet. We found that the oil was low. Could it do any resulting damages. etc?

Yes, oil lubricates the engine, so low oil could cause lots of damage. Look in owners manual to see what kind of oil you need and add some right away, then take the car in ASAP.

Depends on how low the oil was,and yes it could have already done damage. What you smell is probably fumes from oil leaking onto the engine.I would drain the oil and look for metal residue in the oil.As long as the engine isn't making a noise (other than normal),change the oil and filter, and look for oil leaks (the valve cover gaskets would be a good place to start). You may have a leak that is simple to fix.Make sure to find out if you have a leak though or the problem will repeat it's self, and you could end up having a real problem.

Low oil isn't as bad as no oil but you should always keep the cars oil level at its optimum level. The engines oil is its blood. When the engine burns oil it does create a bad smell, and usually blue tinted smoke from the exhaust. You would really do yourself and your car a favor to get the oil problem taken care of. I hope this helps.

Hopefully you caught the low oil in time. I would think that you have. You ask for the resulting damages. About $2000 plus in other words a new engine.
