Ember Halo
how do you tell if a cat is pregnant?
my (not quite 1 yr old) cat got out on the fourth of July, just a few days after she was obviously in heat. when she got back in she was all skittish (but what housecat wouldn't get skittish outside on the 4th of July?!)
as it's been over a month, are there any signs i could check for to determine if she's pregnant? i know that a cat's gestation is only about 2 months, so she's halfway through... should she be showing now? any other signs?
thanks!

This method I was taught when I first started working with animals. It's a good way to find out if kitty is pregnant. Take her and put her on a table. Using a table will be better for you and her. Gently scruff her by the back of the neck. It doesn't hurt the cat and shows the cat that you are in control of the situation. Momma cats do this all the time to carry babies from one place to the other. Hold her up right, having her on her hind legs. Place your hand on her belly and gently feel around.Squeeze a little to see if you can feel anything. If you feel little round lumps in her belly, it's a sure sign that she is pregnant. Those little round lumps will be the babies heads. Even if you take her to a veterinarian they will do the same thing.
Hope this helps!

i agree, go ahead and get her fixed. so many cats die each year. The kittens should be moving around by now--or making some bubbles at least. Feel her belly.
Once you were planning on gettign her fixed-- your better off getting her fixed now, they might charge you a little more (say $20) if she's already prego, but it would be best.
I like to think of it in these terms: She has kittens, three females and two males. Her kittens can have up to 41 kittens themselves in less than a years ( 2-3 litters) and as early as 6 months of age. So it's not just a few kittens, its all the other kittens that spawn off this one momma cat.

Feel her belly. If it's round and there are little lumps, she's pregnant. Those little lumps will be your little kittens.
After her pregnancy, be sure to get her spayed. Hey, maybe you could keep all the kittens so they don't get separated from their mother!
Or you may want to think about getting her spayed now, because the kittens will have to be spayed, or else they can all have babies, and the cycle will go on and on. A lot of cats out there don't have homes and we don't need to contribute to that. Good luck. If you decide to keep the kittents, be sure to get THEM spayed!

Feel of her belly and see if it is firm, like a water balloon is in there. If it is, then she is pregnant. If not, then it will be less firm and squishy to an extent and it will not be round. Even if you cannot see it, you should be able to feel it.

Why not take her to the vet and get her spayed, so you don't have to worry. 3 million cats and kittens are killed each and every year in the USA for lack of homes. We don't need any more.
