Lots of establishments have wifi, and also lots of houses, in my network i have people online all the time, i don't like to block the signal of the router, but you can even find personal networks just try to be near downtown, it's better covered.

There are many places in Mexico that have free wireless Internet access, such as Starbucks, Italian Coffee and most major hotels. There is also a card, Todito, that you can purchase to access the net.

VPN's are not hackerproof but are as secure as you're going to get without spending megabucks If your information is that sensitive from a security prospective that you need to ask this question, then don't use unsecured wireless in a internet cafe However, In answer to your question, Yes, VPN will provide security from all but the best hackers.

My former sister inlaw has a lap top that was made by Apple, and she has Earthlink. The lap top is the wireless kind. All you do is move around, around it picks up a signal, then move the pointer by touching a pad on the key board, and ect. I've never been to Mexico, but I think if your lap top is anything like hers, you'll do fine with whatever isp you have.

Telmex is the company that manage the mexican wireless internet (Prodigy), and if you have an account in the US you could have access to your count (mainly att service, ck it). With prodigy you can use your lap top in public areas like Starbucks, Sanborns (restaurant), malls, even hotels have the internet service.
