Why do some people believe Joseph was married before he married Mary?
I read some answers to different questions that said that Joseph was a widower when he married Mary and that all of Jesus' siblings that are mentioned in the bible are Mary's stepchildren. I'm just wondering where this information came from because I've never heard it before.
Sorry, I don't mean for this to sound like a riddle with all the mary/marry's. Ha ha.

Although it is a non-canonical gospel it does not mean that it is not true. The gospel just failed the test for canonicity. Nonetheless, we know from this gospel that Mary's parents were Joachim and Anne and that she came from a priestly class.

Look up the word sibling.It is not what you are referring to,which would be offspring.And none of it has historical or Biblical weight.Doesn't matter what theories sprout up or where they originate if they have no backing in history or God's Word.There simply are too many heresies out there to spend too much time on.Never heard that one or I'd give you dates and groups to research on your own.I know the heresy regarding Mary,but never heard of anything pertaining to Joseph.p.s.His siblings are Mary and Joseph's children after the virgin birth of Jesus.That is Biblical and historical fact.

I've never believed that he was.
I've always thought that he was single, around 30 35 or so, and when it was announced that he was to be Mary's spouse, most people were pretty shook up. (There was a younger man in line for the hand of Mary, who was also very rich. When he found out that Joseph had been chosen as her spouse, he sold everything and went to live in the desert with the Essenes.)
Or so the story of the lily goes.

because that information it's found in the gospel of James.. it's a gospel was not recognize.. inside of the new testament.. but it's keeping as tradition in the catholicism, you can find the information about the nativity of mary, the wedding of mary and joseph.. the jesus born in Bethlehem
