What do I do with all the trash I found in the creek I'm cleaning-up?
I am cleaning a creek near my house and I have collected a lot of trash. The creek in fed by street run-off so you can imagine.
But I have styrofoam, plastic bottles, cables, cell phones, water-logged children's toys, a chair, & a bunch of leaves that clogg little streams.
I am particulary concerned with the styrofoam I would like to recycle it and ALL of the other items. Any suggestions?

Some styrofoam actually fools fish into thinking it is fish eggs, and is consumed. This is obviously not a great decision on the part of the fish, and ever since a very special person said this to me I can't see a piece of styrofoam on the ground without picking it up. Thank you for your efforts.
I work at a nature center with a small stream, and upstream there's a park. I am forever fishing out balls and sand toys, and I clean off what I can and give it to my grandson.
Recycle what you can, leave the leaves -- unless there's some sort of choke point and diminished flow, those leaves provide nutrients and possibly shelter and food for wildlife -- and perhaps work in concert with a local artist who can produce creek art.
You rock!

frist of all i want to say what a get thing it is you are doing and please don't listen to some of the other advice and throw the trash into another creek, I think the best thing for you to do is to recycle as much of the trash you can. i to have volunteered to clean the trash out of creeks and people just really can't imagine the type of things that get in there. so hats off to you for getting the trash out. and the only real thing you can do with it is just recycle and much as you can.
Thanks!!!

Great job. You are a true environmentalist as opposed to the whiners and complainers. I'm afraid most of your items will go into a landfill. Most of them will biodegrade in time. Some will be buried for centuries. Compost the leaves for your flower gardens. Thank you for your efforts. Our sportsmen's club here does the same thing throughout the year. Ever time I canoe our local small river I return with a half a canoe full of trash.
