why can't I download Msn mesenger 8.1?

I have the oldest version by default. I've been trying to get the latest version of it which is Windows Live 8.1, but i cant seem to be able to download it. Ive tried www.msn.com and everytime i click on download it takes me to a page that says "cannot display page" as if i didnt have internet. but i do. ive also tried downloading it from other websites such as download.com and windows update but its the same thing. can someone help??
