I need a GOOD indoor point and shoot digital camera?
I need a good point and shoot digital camera that takes pretty good pictures indoors. I currently have a Kodak V610 and it takes great pictures outdoors with no flash but horrible pictures inside with the flash on. The pictures are dark and always have to be retouched. I also have a Fujifilm s3100 camera which takes great pictures indoors with the flash but horrible pictures outdoors without the flash. I need a balance there.... because I'd like to be able to carry around one camera.
I wouldn't mind for it to have image stabalization (because I assume this would help) and that color recognition/color accent feature.... and decently smaller in size, so I can keep it in my purse.
Money really isn't an issue... but something around $250 would be ideal.

Most of the flashes in p&s cameras are not powerful enough to lit the entire room, you usually will have the subject exposed correctly but the background is underexposed.
If your camera has a slow sync mode, you can mount your camera on a tripod and set the flash to slow sync. Your subject will need to stand/sit still for a second or two. You will get a well lit picture this way.
Another way is to buy a digital slave flash. Just set it up and point it to the celling on a tripod. When your camera fires the flash, the digital slave flash will fire too and it will lit the room well. However, you will need to manually set the power of the slave flash to get a balanced exposure.
The last option is to buy a camera with a hot shoe, this will cost more than $250 for sure. For example, you can get Canon G9 or S5 IS with Canon 430 EX.

Check out either of these two cameras:
1. Nikon L11 - 6 megapixel compact camera which is powered by two rechargeable AA batteries and stores images on SD memory cards. There no shutter lag, the LCD is 2.5"; and the videos with sound are awesome [especially recording piano playing].
2. Canon PowerShot SD1000 ELPH - 7 megapixel camera which is powered by a proprietary rechargeable lithium battery to produce around 115 shots using the LCD or 220 shots via the viewfinder. The 2.5" LCD consists of 225,000 pixels [vs. the competition that's 115,000] and is photo quality. The video with sound is top drawer. This is an ultracompact that fits into your shirt pocket.
Both cameras are currently offered at samys.com for:
$99.00 for the Nikon [including case]
$150.00 for the Canon
And no sales tax will be charged for these cameras up to Wednesday, December 12th. Both cameras also have the "vivid" color option which is currently the default setting on Nikon D40s and D80s.
Good luck!

All cameras with small built-in flashes will have the same issues:
- flash not very powerful (short distance)
- directional (blasts light straight ahead)
- prone to red-eye
The only real way to improve flash is to add an external flash unit.
To do this, the camera must have either a hot shoe on top or a socket for a sync cable.
Otherwise, you really won't notice much difference.
Hope this helps.
