Is it advisable to rent a car in Singapore?

I have an international driving license and I'll be going to Singapore - my first time - on a short vacation in November, just 2 days. Do you think its a good idea to rent a car while I'm there? How much is the rate per day and how do I rent one? Or is it better to explore the country through public transportation? I heard the tranport system is really good there.

Hi 1. for the main attractions in the city area, use the MRT trains. 2. for outlying attractions like the Bird Park, Zoo, Night Safari, take a taxi. You may also consider the shuttle to Night Safari from various parts of the city - specific time and location for pickup. Check their website: http://www.nightsafari.com.sg 3. If you are into the Kranji farms, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, and other attractions off the beaten path, yes, a rented car will do wonders.

It is not advisable for you to rent a car as you will only be here for a short stay of 2 days. If you do not have a lot of baggage, you may just take the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) train from the Changi Airport to your hotel. This will be very reasonable as compared to taking a taxi. As you will be seeing Singapore mostly on foot, having a car will be more of a hindrance as you have to look for a parking lot, displaying parking coupons in areas which do not have an electronic cash card entry/exit system, buy a cash card to pay for parking fees and the numerous charges when you enter town [these charges are known as Electronic Road Pricing]. When you arrive at Changi Airport and decide to take the MRT, you may go to the ticketing counter and purchase a tourist concession card which will give you privileges as a tourist. Singapore has a good system of public transport, so don't worry too much about getting around! And, Welcome! -----

If you rent a car, you may need to pay more than taking private transport as in Singapore, when you get to anywhere, you need to pay ERP. When you park your car anywhere, you need to pay for the parking fee and the petrol price is rising here and about 1.4L tank is already costing around SGD 100 using normal petrol. So think twice and take the public transport is better as it would really help you save a lot and it is very very convenient because you can get to anywhere within a bus ride( if you take it from central ) or MRTs are really really fast too.

not a good idea. with petrol prices these days? plus there are a couple of singapore specific driving rules i.e. bus lanes. and there's ERP where you have to pay to drive through these toll areas. and parking in the city area is very expensive. since you are coming for a short vacation, use the public transport. they are very easy to understand and navigate. much cheaper to go town or places of interest as well.
