Need help with salex tax question, can't figure percentages?

My sister has recently started selling products for a company and can't figure sales tax into her total prices for her customers. She doesn't get it when I try tp explain to her and doesn't think I have the right answers. We live in North Carolina with sales tax of 6.75% Say she has a order for $90.00 worth of products what's the tax then? Can anyone explain the process to solve so she can solve them with a calculator?

Well, she is probably not converting the 6.75% into a decimal, which would make it .0675 X 90 = $6.075, which would be rounded up to $6.08 in tax, plus the originial $90 =$96.08. Tell you sister to think of the tax in terms of pennies...for every dollar of product she sells, she will be collecting 6 and 3/4 pennies... She can also probably get a sales tax chart that she can keep with her...Avon, for example, gives its consultants the chart, or she might be able to download one from the 'Net. Or, she could just keep coming to you! <G>

if you want just the cost of the tax then multiply the order amount by 0.0675 If you are looking for the total amount (order amount plus tax) then multiply the order amount by 1.0675
