You can get carpal tunnel from practically anything. Even just typing on a computer on a regular basis, or writing.
Playing guitar can very well cause carpal tunnel. Pins & needles, and numbness are symptoms of it. Even weakness in the hand/fingers (usually last only 10 secs or so).
Doctors can help you treat it. Wearing a brace at night can help. Chiropractors usually can help with it as well.

I, too, have carpal tunnel. Not from playing the guitar, but because my job requires copious amounts of typing. However, I do have a guitar player friend who developed carpal tunnel because of his love of playing music. It sucks, but it is what it is. Go to a doctor now before the carpal does any neuropathical damage ie. nerve damage. Carpal tunnel can and will damage the nerves in your hands and wrists if left untreated, and if it gets bad enough you could lose use of your hand or hands. Start treating it now by getting a prescription for hand braces to wear at night or whenever you want, really. These will keep you from bending your wrists too much. Also, a doctor can prescibe an anti-inflammatory medication, although aspirin and ibuprofen are over-the-counter anti-inflammatories. But before you take either of those, ask your doctor because sometimes they can exacerbate existing medical conditions, and sometimes they can have bad interactions with medications you might already be taking.
It might not be carpal tunnel, but go to the doctor soon to either rule it out or start treatment. Good luck.
