How much does it cost to learn MMA?

I am 16, and I was thinking about leaning MMA. How much it is for the gear, and what the monthly fee is(on average). Also, what do you recommend. I don't know much about it. I don't really know the types, and what the difference is. I really like the movie "Never Back Down" if that helps any. -Thanks

Depends on things like your club and how good/respected it is, how often you train and what you put in to it( for example an mma diet could set you back a few). I can only give you my example cause I live in the UK so I don't know about the US. My mma class is £40 a month so around $50 for the class fee, all my gloves and equipment cost me around $70( I'll do it in dollars for your sake ), a licence for fighting was around $25 and my diet is a constant fee, around $40 a month for certain foodstuffs. So your looking around $180-$200 to get started and then a monthly cost of around $80-$100 monthly. Hope this helps

Well you basically answered your own question. You said "I don't really want to enroll in MMA." Then there's your answer. Also MMA is a sport. MMA does not teach self defense, it teaches how to fight another person who does a probably different form of MMA. Karate is for self defense, which is what you want, also eventually you will build self confidence from Karate ,or at least I did, and talk more if you don't like that about yourself. Also make sure its not a McDojo.

For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/avAM4 Evolve gym is probably the best gym in Singapore for mma training and fitness training in general. They have a lot of good fighters emerge from their gym and has prestige in the mma world. I believe it costs 300 dollars a month and you can take as many classes as you want. That was about 2 years ago now though. But the gym I know is still around.

It completely depends on the gym and quality of training. Expect a minimum of $60-$75 per month (local school with Joe Schmo head instructor), $175 max per month (Xtreme Couture, highly touted professional fighter head instructor). Look to see if you even have an MMA school nearby, as decent schools are quite rare. The equipment is not very expensive compared to the monthly expense of lessons.
