Are the Russian troops lost in Georgia?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080819/ap_on_re_eu/georgia_russia So basically they are supposed to be pulling out but for some reason they are headed the other way towards the capital. What are they planning to do catch a flight from there and fly home?

Russia is attempting to diminish the Georgian military, which it has successfully done in its campaign. But Georgian arms aren't limited to things that the invasion can seize, but world opinion and subsequent sanctions upon the already struggling Russian economy. Georgia has allies, and they will make a strong statement against Russia's intent to expand their influence soon. This will cost Russia more than it had anticipated in the assault. Military solutions don't always encapsulate the full spectrum of conflict, for there are 'wars' occurring elsewhere, and Russia will soon find itself at a loss for its presumed victory.

[After his arrival in Gori on August 18, Georgian National Security Council Secretary Alexandre Lomaia told Aptsiauri that Moscow was dragging its feet on an agreed withdrawal in order to destroy Georgian military infrastructure and inflict maximum economic damage.] [In past days, the apparent slow Russian reaction would have drawn a sharp response from Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who since the start of the conflict has referred to the Russians as "21st-century barbarians" intent on "ethnic cleansing." But in televised comments on August 18, Saakashvili was more moderate in tone, calling for talks between Georgia and Moscow -- despite the Kremlin's insistence it will not meet Saakashvili at the negotiating table. "I appeal to you and I demand from you that Russian occupation forces should leave the territory of Georgia immediately," Saakashvili said. "I appeal to you that after your armed forces leave Georgian territory, you start serious thinking and discussion about further negotiations to start a further search for ways of building up relations, and ways to not ruin the relations between our countries forever. But now the occupation must end." Saakashvili's softer language follows talks in Tbilisi on August 17 with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.] Meanwhile the Bush administration continues to stir the pot in order to save face: [Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on her way to an emergency meeting of NATO foreign ministers, said Russia was playing a "very dangerous game and perhaps one the Russians want to reconsider." She said the United States and its allies would not allow Russia to draw a "new line" through Europe and intimidate former Soviet republics and former satellite states.]
