Its hard for anyone to predict when labor will begin. Seeing as how you are 38 weeks, I would say the onset of labor could be anywhere from hours to weeks away. There are a lot of other signs to look for to see if your body is preparing to go into labor. First of all, is the loss of your mucus plus and/or blood show. You mucus plug will look similar to a blob of snot, and maybe blood tinged (which would be bloody show)...it can either come out all at one or over time. Also, the baby will drop, meaning its head will engage in your pelvis, they say that for first time moms this can happen a few weeks before delivery and in susbsequent pregnancies will happen at the start of labor. But its different in every pregnancy and every woman. Low backaches are also a sign that labor may being, as well as pelvic pressure. Then there is the definite sign, that being that your water has broken. My water broke first, and my contractions came second, but they came on pretty fast. Hope this info was helpful. Good luck!

Maybe if you take a brisk walk, or have sex that will help them start? If you feel like it, of course. I am 37 weeks, and had sex last Saturday and that brought on some pretty strong contractions, but they didn't last. Also, I have been walking and that brings them on, but again, they don't last. But, they are doing me some good because I went to the doctor yesterday and I am dilated to 3 cm, so the contractions are doing something, just not time for active labor yet. I wish you the best with your baby and delivery, and I hope it happens for you soon, as I'm sure you are quite ready!!!!

You may not have any contractions prior to labor. I was induced and did not have a single contraction until they gave me medicine to start contractions. Do not worry as long as you are getting prenatal care. Your doctor or midwife will keep an eye on you. You may even want to count your self lucky. Some people get contraction weeks before they are due and find it hard to sleep or do much of anything else. Get some rest while you can.

you may not feel any at all. Have you checked with your mother to investigate her symptoms when she was pregnant with you? is this your first baby? ususally, USUALLY, first babies are a little late than the due date.
