nope, it ain't wierd atall, and if you are a beginner, get a world industries or a blind sk8 board, but if you have been sk8ing for a long time, get a pro board ( one of those thin sk8 boards)

It's not weird for girls to skateboard. Lots of girls skate. You should get a skateboard that is up to your thigh in length.
