I got myself into a mess and not sure if the bank that cleared a check should be partly responsible?
I received a check for $4,800 from a company that I thought that I had applied for employment on the internet. I had worked for this same Co. 7 yrs. ago, and so when I received a letter and check fromt them months after I applied, I was a little un easy about it. The check was for a large sum and the instruction where to deposit it into my bank. There was a break down of the amount giving to me. Weekly training for 6 weekss. a shopping trip to take and motel to stay at. Well long story short, I deposit the check after several day, and the bank put a hold on it. About 4 days later, they released the funds and I paid some bills and took the short trip and stayed at a motel as I was told to do.........Well when I returned the bank had reversed the check and you probley know what happened after that. Returned checks and check charges. I called the bank and they said that The check was a fraud, I asked them why would they released the funds to me and that I had waited for that reason. I also told them that they should at least take part of thbl aimim. I am sure you also know the out come of that. Has anyone had togo thru this and what did you do? I feel sstupided, I have always wondered how these older people can fall for these scams. Now i know I was to deposit the check and then take the tripe and then do a wire tranaction and wire them most of the money back. I am on a fixed incomeme and this is really hurting me. Thanks for the ear. Ma

And the FBI hasn't been knocking at your door? usually the banks would report something like "check fraud", especially if you have been tapping in to the funds, sounds like the bank is scamming you too.

The scams are getting more legit looking than ever, but the bank is holding you responsible since you are the one that endorsed the check.
Also the banking laws were change to make money more readily available to customers.
Direct deposits have to be made available on the next Business day and checks can be held by the bank until it clears the bank the check was drawn on.
Anytime you get a check in the mail and asks you to cash it and send some of the money back - it's a scam.

You were scammed. The bank is not responsible. Report the scam to your State Attorney Generals' office. Make sure you have copies of all the documents and transactions.

The bottom line is that you were scammed. You are responsible for any over draft charges on your account etc. If you can get to the bottom of it you can sue the people who sent you the check for fraud.

There is no free lunch and you know better. Your conscience warned you but your greed won out. Bank not responsible.
