As an Obama supporter, I was incredibly impressed with the gracious tone of McCain's speech. I admired his ability to transcend his own ambition and express his (I believe sincere) desire for his supporters to support the President-elect. As a Democrat, it's the first time since McCain's 2000 campaign that I've seen the bipartisan side of him. As an American, I was incredibly proud of this United States Senator's behavior in light of the huge disappointment the American people dropped on him. John McCain showed incredible grace and class in defeat. I wish his supporters would do so as well.

For YES WE DID! Your evaluation is pretty good - but you missed one point. Most of Senator McCain's supporters will be as graceful in defeat. Not so much when it comes to his campaign staff. I've never been so ashamed of my "party" as I've been with this cutthroat scapegoating that's going on. Senator McCain should have stepped up immediately and accepted responsibility for every misstep - voiced or otherwise - in the campaign. Quite honestly, it's the most incompetent campaign I've seen anyone run since George McGovern in 1972. Grace in defeat, sure. But what about the game that was played before the defeat? It was disgraceful. Like leaving your starters in the locker room after halftime because you don't want them to get hurt - so you just use the second stringers and get your butt kicked. He may well have destroyed the Republican Party in the process.
