First off, we need to get your form right. Your right foot should in front of your left about a foot apart, knees slightly bent. The number one reason a set is too low is because a setter is only using their arms to set when they should be using mostly legs. When the ball comes to you, bend down and push the ball out by straightening your knees giving you the power you need to get the set high enough for your hitter. Now for your hands...hold your hands out like you are going to set the ball. Pull your elbows in and point your thumbs towards your forehead. Also place your hands above your forehead as if you were to let the ball go through your hands, it would hit you there. Rotate your wrists in an up and down motion (your thumbs should go from your forehead and then rotate up as your finishing position would be a thumbs up)! This is the motion you should have when you set the ball. Now let's do a drill. Take a ball and get very close to the wall (a little bit less than an arm's distance). Set the ball up against the wall very quickly many times just above your forehead. If you cannot control it, then adjust the form of your hands a bit. This drill will help you learn how to absorb the ball and absorb it quickly. Take away the wall and add your legs and you should see the difference in your sets. Also make sure that your shoulders are perpendicular to the net. Your shoulders and feet should match so that you can push the ball forwardss and backwards in the direction you are pointing. Another thing i would encourage you to do is communicate with your trainer/coach a little bit more. Don't be scared. If he tells you that you aren't doing something right, say thank you for noticing, but also ask him to show you what he means. Make him work with you (hands-on) and help you fix it rather than tell you what you are doing wrong. Hope this helps. Good luck on your game and let me know how it goes.

Well my BFF and me switch for setter, so here are some tips. 1.) you only use finger tips (that spot right under where your fingernail grows.) 2.) you never slap the ball or try and hit it 3.) push the ball upward like you are lifting a weight at an upward vertical angle(not too upward but so that the bottom of the middle of your upper arm is above your nose.) 4.) Keep your fingers like you are scratching(like a cat)just a gentle curve then extend as you push up. 5.) Make a triangle with your thumbs and index fingers and place it in the middle of your forehead kind of like you are dumping a bucket of something on your forehead, then seperate your triangle a bit and put your hands up a little bit and that is your starting set position. Make sure you push your hands outward after the set is done as your follow-up. 6.) Jump/spring when you set it should help 7.) Always make sure you are under the ball so you can set it right. 8.) Put your butt into it (no seriously) get into your vb stance only more like you are standing up and squeeze your butt muscles then use them to propel yourself as you hit 9.) Keep your eyes on the ball and see exactly where you want the ball to go 10.)At home and anywhere you go find a spot on a wall or something that is high enough( a little higher)than you need to set and as far away as you need to set(just about) and continually set to that spot while going over in your mind what you need to be practicing and doing. Or you could also just keep setting upward and see how high or how many times in a row you can go. Also what really helps is to have someone watching. 11.) Until it is natural to you keep consciously thinking about what it is you need to practice If you need any more help find me. I really hope this helps you. P.S. remember not to take the ball down with you too much because it will be a carry and you do want to mildly scoop the ball and push. Also ask your trainer if he could please show you what you could do to make the set better, how you should set, and what it all looks like. He should understand and help you.

ok i am a setter too and this is how i get my sets higher first make sure you are under the ball so you can really set it well then you make sure your hands are right (it should be like you r drinking a 2 liter) & when you set you should make sure if the ball fell through your hands then it should hit you in the forehead then make sure you really use your legs if you do all of that then you should be good to go!

By a weighted volleyball, its made just for setters. It will make your fingers and hands stronger, allowing you to set the ball higher.

make sure u get more power with your legs by springin upward when u set and also make sure the ball almost hits your sundan which is about where your hairline is and make your 2 index fingers and 2 thumbs into a triangle to catch the ball and when you follow through with the set turn your hands outward

Make sure to make a triangle with your hands whenever the ball is about to come to you. When you come in contact with the ball, scoop it in with you hands and push up. Make sure not to pull it down with you too much, because it will be a carry.
