"What advantage did the Jews gain from executing their wise King?

Someone wrote to my Q, regarding an evidence of Mr. J died in crossed: -------- There is a letter in the british museum from Mara Bar-Serpaion to Serapion his son in 73AD that speaks about Jesus' death. "What advantage did the Jews gain from executing their wise King? ... Nor did the King die for good; he lived on in the teaching which he had given." ---------- Anyone has seen this letter or this is just a religion manipulation theme? please advise, thanks (and it does not say about the cross) Peace

Jews had nothing to do with the death of Jesus- it was purely a Roman thing since they feared him leading a rebellion against them. The so called trial given in the NT story is the completely opposite of the Jewish law 1) It takes place at night- all trials were held during the day 2) It takes place in a private home- all trials in Jerusalem for capital offenses were held in the court of the Sanhedrin in the Temple courtyard 3) There were very few people present - there have to be a minimum of 21 judges in a capital case- in Jerusalem the full Sanhedrin of 70 judges heard capital cases. 4) If a court cannot find a person guilty, they are forbidden to hand them over to secular authorities - the "court" in the NT does not find Jesus guilty and then hands him over. So four serious violations of the halacha (Jewish law)- which since they were in a capital case means the death sentence for those committing the violations- yet the NT keeps slandering the Pharisees and their strict adherence to the law! On top of that- you have a big problem; a Roman governor who is later removed for excessive cruelty! (You gotta wonder- and this from a people that watched people fighting to death, getting eaten alive etc for fun!) And yet a conquered, powerless group of people is somehow meant to have the ability to get him to obey them? What does make sense is if this whole ridiculous scenario is inserted in to remove the blame from the Romans when the early Christians were trying to convert them and needed a scapegoat! Who better than the people that had rejected their new God - it removes the blame from the people they are trying to convert while giving an excuse why the vast majority of them have rejected him!

Exactly the same advantages from getting rid Santa Claus. (And the Easter Bunny should really watch out!) JOking. There was a concerted effort to blame the Jews for this Roman political execution of Jesus. This letter could easily be part of the public policy enforcing Jews as scapegoats and Romans as innocent moralizers, or a letter from a Gentile adherent. It is an example of the beginning of the "Jews killed Jesus" rallying point for contempt for the Jewish people. "Killing Jesus" has been the rationalization for millions of Jewish deaths. Since cross/crucifixion was the Roman method of execution, the letter wouldn't have to say it. Many Jewish martyrs were executed in just the same way. Jesus is not unique as the only one crucified. I remembered another false claim that is leveled against us. The Younger Testament claims Jews "killed their prophets". This is totally untrue, and another false (Roman/Christian) claim of Jews killing their own that is a false witness against us. I would disagree with the skeptic review article above @ Schroedinger who said the Jews killed their kings. Jews did not kill their kings. David had 2 chances to kill Saul (who really deserved it ) and did not because Saul was King!

Cake or Death?
The letter does indeed exist, and it mentions a Jewish king in passing. But this figure is not named, and the meaning of the passage is disputed: " What advantage did the Athenians gain from putting Socrates to death? Famine and plague came upon them as a judgment for their crime. What advantage did the men of Samos gain from burning Pythagoras? In a moment their land was covered with sand. What advantage did the Jews gain from executing their wise king? It was just after that that their kingdom was abolished. God justly avenged these three wise men: the Athenians died of hunger; the Samians were overwhelmed by the sea; the Jews, ruined and driven from their land, live in complete dispersion. But Socrates did not die for good; he lived on in the teaching of Plato. Pythagoras did not die for good; he lived on in the statue of Hera. Nor did the wise king die for good; he lived on in the teaching which he had given."

Jesus is King of your heart and spirit. He was apolitical.. Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and God that which is God's. The only law he sought to promote was the law of Moses. He asked the Jew to return to the original law and to the prophecy's. That was the real kicker the Jew had already abandoned the belief in the end times prophesies even then. As well as the prophesy of his coming. They wouldn't change. They still haven't. First to the Jew then to the Gentile. BTW. No one killed Jesus. He could have stepped off the cross at any time. Healed himself as well. He gave up the ghost. Look it up. He was not killed for us. He died for us.

Cher and Cher alike
Jesus was never anointed as anything. Jews didn't execute him using a method they were forbidden. Read the scriptures, it was the Romans. And who cares if a few people killed him millenia ago. I certainly didn't & I'm Jewish. I can't even kill a bug. So, the letter isn't historically accurate & so doesn't seem to be proof. Good to ask though. One of the other answers seems to have found the whole context. ==== What's the TD's for? It matters to Christianity that he was killed -- but NOT BY WHO! And as a Jew, it's important to notice that I & others here & now certainly had no involvement.

Amen. The Prophecy given through John was written in 90 AD. Daniel was given Prophecy in about 300 BC. That the Prophecy was fulfilled: these are the marks that I received at the House of My Friends. That the Prophecy was fulfilled concerning how Messiah must suffer and die and Be Resurrected by The Power of God overcoming death and hades in glory. The crusades and many other events gathered together a lot of evidences regarding the authentic understandings with regards to the historical and archaeological of the Life of Jesus. A lot of things might be found from of old among the ruling class at Churches anals which have remained circulated or not. It was to be that one would have to seek it out at written. Surely, the templars joint judean club would have some evidences. Some would, in fact, hope to suppress these from the public for they were as having no regard for the savior in this. That the Prophecy Spoken by God in Daniel and Jesus and John the Apostle would be fulfilled, The Temple of God was destroyed: the people of the ruler that will come will destroy the Temple verse, the end of the spiritual war will be as a flood, war will continue to the end. Then, 10 leaders will grab hold of one Jew (the son of perdition false prophet antiMessiah) who makes a covenant with them implementing the number of the name of the false prophet for 3 1/2 years or 42 months or 1260 days plus 30-75 days. They will cause war on part of the world and civil commerce war upon the true of any faith claiming to be greater than He who Is God.

Jesus was never an anointed king of Israel. He never ruled in Israel at all. edit: There is no legitimate reason to give a thumb down ( as I received so rapidly) to a fact of history. Give it a dozen thumbs down and it does not change history.

After examining a number of the solutions it jogged my memory of something I discovered awhile in the past. The gospels are written a jointly as (someplace between 5-30 years) after christ's loss of existence. Is that precise? And it replaced into defined to me that as we talk after Christ's loss of existence there have been maximum of witnesses that they did not decide on a written be conscious. in spite of if by way of time, there have been too many believers and not sufficient eye witness debts. The message unfold so quickly that they did not have the attention witness account that they used to. so as that they wrote the scriptures. And it variety of feels to me, approximately 2000 years later, that the be conscious quite is needed. There are different debts of Jesus different than the bible, yet you adult men are writing off the bible as an eye fixed wittness account.
