How can i turn on Windows Security Center?

It's telling me that the firewall is on, but the automatic updates are off. When i click to turn them back on, nothing happens. And the virus protection is also off, but I do not know where to go to turn it back on. I have a windows xp.

Go to start>run>type services.msc Scroll down and click security center and set it to automatic if it isn't already. And do the same thing with "windows firewall". Just search in that list until you find them. You should have to reboot to get them started again.

you will find updates in control panel, same with security but that is only the windows firewall, Updates should be on (recommended). If you don't want downloads to happen, best to go to Microsoft download site , choose "custom" and hide eg SP3 if you don't want it and you won't get prompted all the time, but will receive other important updates, such as IE vunrability patch, just released KB 960714
