Is it normal after her first heat for a dogs nipples to enlarge and look puffy?

We tried to watch her closely and I'm hoping something didn't come over the fence and get to her. I'm not spaying her because I plan to possibly breed her at a future date.

I'm not a vet, but I was a nurse, and my guess would be yes. Those sexual hormones are powerful. I should think at the least means that she is simply expecting to get pregnant.

What you are saying is that she might be pregnant but you have no idea what dog it could have been. At best you will end up with a litter of mutts. If the dog was a lot bigger than her then she will not be able to carry or give birth and will need a c section. At worst you will lose her during pregnancy or whelping. Take her to the vet to be spayed ... if there are puppies they will be aborted at the same time. Shelters are full all the time. In this economic climate they are bursting.

Besides actually being pregnant, a female dog, following a heat cycle, can have what is called a false pregnancy, where her body thinks it is pregnant, but really isn't. Her nipples can increase in size, she can actually produce milk, build a nest and actually treat a toy as a puppy. You can have you vet perform a pregnancy test on her if it has been at least 30 days since being bred (in your case, 30 days after her cycle basically ended). It is a simple blood test and that way, you'll know exactly what is going on and what to expect.

Maybe. I have an intact female, and we just make sure she's never around males unsupervised. Ever. We never leave her outside unsupervised. Ever. There are several reasons for that. We are going to have her spayed in the next month or so. Give the puppies with spay/neuter contracts so they don't end up contributing to the growing problem of pet overpopulation.

It is normal, but it should go away fairly quickly after the heat is over. You may want to check with your vet- and PS- no need to be snippy. When your b**** is in heat she cannot be unsupervised outside for a minute, just for this reason, which all responsible and knowledgeable breeders know.

First off you are wanting to become a BYB and this sickens me but to answer the question Yes a dog can get puffy nipples after a heat without being pregnant but it is obvious that you are not ready to even think of becoming a breeder so please get that dog spayed A b**ch in heat should always be separated from all chances of getting pregnant EX: when I have a Bi**h in heat my males are housed in the outdoor kennel in the back and the female in heat is not allowed in the back she is housed in the front in a kennel I have set up for just that reason. And when walked she is walked in the other direction from my house. Yes all my kennels are indoor/outdoor heated kennels and no I have never bred any of my dogs and have never had a opps litter either! Added 90% still means they can be mutts..If you have bred in the past then you should know better then leaving that dog outside in heat.

Why was she left outside, while she was in heat? Males will do anything it takes to get to a female in heat and a fence will not stand in their way! It sounds like she's pregnant to me! Enlarged nipples are a sign of pregnancy! Get her Spayed! You don't know what you are doing and you are putting her life at risk! ADD: Do not click on Raul's link! You will get a Virus on your computer!!!

their nipples get a little larger after the first heat. if she's gaining weight, that's a different story. it is very hard for a bulldog to get pregnant without artificial insemination. so, chances of her getting pregnant are very slim

yes its perfectly normal i have two staffies[bitches] and their nipples become puffed and large before during and after their heat cycle they can also produce a milky substance from them, the best way to know if she is pregnant is to take her to the vets.most surgeries are quite helpfull and will give you advice, just give them a quick call .
