Why are Americans so darn materialistic?

Gee-whiz. It seems more value is placed on material things than living a nice peaceful simple life. I guess that's why so many get stuck in jobs they don;t like because of all those bills they have to pay from buying all that "stuff".

For many people, it is all about show. Live for today, and worry about the bills tomorrow. Meanwhile, they think they are impressing everyone with their "wealth" and symbols of "status".

Buy, buy, buy it's the american dream to keep up or be ahead. Debt drives the american economy. Americans are not satisfied until they owe out every dollar that they have. It's called being Middle Class and if that means you have to be stuck in a job that you hate to pay for things that you can barely afford, that you got on credit I might add, then suck it up that is the American Dream.

People will never be satisfied. People will always want more and more, whether they want it a lot or just "kinda" want it. It's really not just Americans, though we seem to want things enough and we get them..

It's because of advertisement. They sell stuff and advertise it so it looks pleasing to people, so people buy it.

Because capitalism teaches us that all our problems will be solved by having money. What else would we be?
